Weather watch

Forecast as of Friday 10 July — recheck before you load the bikes.

Saturday 11 July · long ride day

≈18°C

Rain chance 45% — rain jackets ride on top of the saddle bag, not the bottom.

Sunday 12 July · homeward day

≈24°C

Rain chance 20% — the better beach-and-swim day of the two.

Plan B — the flip. If Friday evening's forecast still shows a wet Saturday: ride only Smiltynė → Juodkrantė (~19 km) on Saturday and explore the village, then do the full Juodkrantė → Nida → Smiltynė loop (~80 km) in Sunday's sunshine. Flip rules: breakfast at 9:00 sharp, wheels rolling by 9:30, lunch in Nida instead of Klaipėda.

The plan

Traveling light — saddle bags only, no luggage drop. Straight through to Nida, then back north to the hotel.

Saturday — south to the smoked fish

~80 km ride
05:50 Leave Baronų g. 29

310 km via A1, ~3 h 20 min driving. Two 20-minute coffee stops — Elektrėnai area and around Kaunas / Kryžkalnis.

10:00 Park at the Old Ferry, Klaipėda

Senoji perkėla, Danės g. 1 — the pedestrian & cyclist ferry. Paid parking lots within a few hundred metres. Unload bikes, clip on the saddle bags.

10:30 Ferry to Smiltynė

Five minutes across the lagoon. Ticket covers the return trip too.

10:40 Ride Smiltynė → Nida

~50 km on the paved spit cycle path (EuroVelo 10), passing Juodkrantė, Pervalka and Preila. Relaxed pace with photo stops lands you in Nida around 13:45.

14:00 Lunch in Nida harbour

Tik pas Joną (Naglių g. 6) — the smoked-fish institution; fish soup and smoked bream are the moves. Malkinė next door for wood-fired pizza. Energy left? Parnidis Dune is 20 minutes away.

16:00 Ride Nida → Juodkrantė

~30 km back north. Arrive around 18:00.

18:00 Check in — Juodasis Kalnas

Ievos kalno g. 22, Juodkrantė · +370 630 11911. Evening: Hill of Witches sculpture trail is a 10-minute walk; the lagoon promenade earns its sunset reputation.

Sunday — north, swim, home

~20 km ride
09:00 Breakfast at the hotel, check out
10:00 Ride Juodkrantė → Smiltynė

~19 km. Optional detour: Smiltynė beach is ~1 km from the ferry — the "wash before the car" swim stop if you need it.

11:30 Ferry back to Klaipėda

Return leg of Saturday's ticket.

12:00 Lunch in the Old Town

Kavinė Klaipėdos Senamiestis (Kepėjų g. 13) for Lithuanian classics, or Gaisrinė on the Danė riverfront. Both a 5-minute ride from the ferry.

13:30 Load bikes, drive home

~3.5 h plus one coffee stop. Back in Baronai around 17:30.

Ferry facts — Senoji perkėla

Before you go

Three small calls that make the weekend friction-free.

Call the hotel Juodasis Kalnas · +370 630 11911 — confirm check-in time and ask about secure overnight bike storage.
Friday evening Recheck Saturday's forecast. If it still looks wet, activate the flip plan and warn your legs about a big Sunday.
Book nothing else Ferry needs no reservation, restaurants are walk-in — arriving in Nida around 14:00 dodges the worst of the lunch queue at Tik pas Joną.
